So Bill and Ben in my series were working in the clay pits after the cleanup and repairs of the clay pits. **This was made as the stories written for Marvel by Andrew Brenner in the 80's/90's were set, in my timeline, in 1973 and their stories were S3 episodes which one of them is 'Heroes'. *His actual basis was withdrawn in 1976, I believe according to Wikipedia, but I changed it to 1974 since I set S6 in that year. It was until 2016, when Salty was greeted by an old friend who was making her way with a delivery of stone from Anopha Quarry and that was Rosie the Pink tank engine, although Salty had a bit trouble at first when it came to her livery. Salty enjoys his life on the Brendam branch line and there's never a dull moment with all the different ships coming in.
In 1974, Salty was given the job of transferring NWR's 'Fergus' back to the cement works from a siding at the smelters yard when he was shunting trucks and was low on coal on that same day, Thomas and Percy had mimicked him, out of fun, and a terrible storm had hit the Island and a ship was to be docked but the lighthouse at Brendam bay was out of order and so it was Salty's idea to use Fergus' flywheel to power back the broken generation. With that the job was done and he was awarded the shunting at Brendam docks on Edward's branch line. This is where his secret with keeping the trucks in line came into action by singing sea shanty songs to the trucks. This made Salty sad that he's not working by the sea, but he knew that the work was very important. However before doing that, Salty was allocated at the Ffarquhar Quarry company, at the end of Thomas' branch line to help FQC No.1 'Mavis' and SSC No.1 'Bill' and No.2 'Ben'** with a special order of stone for a company over on the mainland and to keep trucks out of mischief and as Toby was away at the works after breaking down while helping out. Salty however was bought by Sir Topham Hatt II and the manager of the Sodor Shipping Company in 1973* in a joint ownership since work at Brendam Docks was beginning to get too much. But as the days passed, she began to get friendly with the sea loving diesel and two became friends until Rosie was bought by Meldon Quarry in the Western Region in 1966 and the two engines hadn't seen in each other since. At first Rosie hated Salty for being at the works since he replaced her at the docks of Southampton. There he met Rosie, who was numbered BR 30064, for the first time in 1962. This results Salty to have a fitter from Eastleigh works and sometimes he visits their to get some extensive work done on him. This happened to them when the first lot were brand new and they had to be delivered by road. The 07 class, which is Salty's basis, were notorious for having their axleboxes run hot when they're at fast speed. They were built to replace Rosie's class, the SR USA class, who were working at Southampton Dockyards since the E2's, Thomas' basis, were withdrawn. Salty was built by Ruston and Hornsby, the same place where Rusty was built, at Lincoln, England and entered service onto BR metals in 1962.
